Bee RNA – RNA’s bee project

We asked ourselves what we as RNA could do to combat bee mortality. In the spring of 2021, we set up two bee colonies on the roof of the new company building of Rhein-Nadel Automation GmbH at the main location in Aachen, and the BEE RNA project was born. We want to make a small contribution against bee mortality and for our environment.

For years, not only have insect numbers been declining, but a large part of the bee population worldwide is also dying. Without bees, life as we know it today would be unimaginable. It's hard to believe, but these little helpers make a significant contribution to the functioning of our ecosystem. The bee is one of the most important agricultural animals on our planet, but like many other insects it is threatened with extinction. Bees not only provide us with delicious honey, but also pollinate a third of all crops. Without them, there would be no fruit or delicious raspberry jam for breakfast. Bees ensure the spread of thousands of plants, which in turn serve as the food basis for countless animal species and thus contribute to the preservation of biodiversity. They thus play a central role in the preservation of our culture and agriculture. Bees are therefore significantly responsible for the functioning of our ecosystem, on which we humans depend.

With the first warm days in April 2021, the time had come and, with the help of a professional beekeeper, we were able to install our first bee colony on the roof of our new company building in Aachen. This beekeeper will continue to support us in the proper care of our bees in the coming months. We were lucky enough to receive a so-called economic colony with about 20,000 bees right at the beginning, which established and grew so well that we were able to take a so-called offshoot at the end of May and install a second colony on our roof in June. In addition to the joy of our own RNA honey, the preservation of bees and our contribution to sustainability as well as the preservation of the native plant world are the main focus of our project.
